DESCRIPTION:As with so many things in this past year\, our Ash Wednesday worship service will be a bit different from our usual tradition. It will be streamed on Facebook Live at 7pm (in lieu of that evening’s prayer service). SUMMARY:Greening the Bible: A Biblical Basis for Creation Care
DESCRIPTION:In addition to Environmental Justice Sunday\, our new Environmental Justice ministry team is sponsoring a 4-session bible study during the month of February. It will be led by the Rev. Dr. Clint McCann\, who is the Evangelical Professor of Biblical Interpretation at Eden Theological Seminary in Webster Groves\, and teaches a seminary class on this topic.\nThese sessions are designed to illustrate the variety of biblical texts that call us to attend to the current ecological crisis.  To be sure\, the Bible offers no easy answers; but as one prominent scholar puts it\, what the Bible can offer are “vision and principle” from the past that may equip us to think and act differently (Ellen F. Davis\, Scripture\, Culture\, and Agriculture: An Agrarian Reading of the Bible\, p. 4). We’ll engage texts from The Torah\, the Prophets\, the Psalms and other Writings\, and the New Testament. \nSessions will be held on Zoom on Wednesdays\, February 3\, 10\, 17\, and 24th\, beginning at 7:30 pm following the weekly prayer service. DESCRIPTION:A time of remembrance is easily incorporated into regular morning worship on the first Sunday in November. It is appropriate near the end of the service before the final hymn and benediction. Introduce the time as one to remember and celebrate the lives of members of the congregation who have died since the last time of memorial and remembrance. Perhaps state a bit of the history of “Totenfest”\, “All Saints\,” and “All Souls” days\, and the appropriateness of remembering those “whom we have loved and lost but for awhile”.
