DESCRIPTION:Our next monthly Bible Study series will begin in January\, which gives you plenty of time to sign up!  The series is entitled “Sowing Tears\, Reaping Joy” and it incorporates the powerful music of Brahms’ Requiem with in-depth study of the biblical passages chosen for this remarkable musical piece. As described by the publisher\, “Follow this famous requiem on a tour of Biblical prompts about death\, grief\, the brevity of life\, and faith for here and hereafter.  Through music and Scripture\, we move from graveside to grieving\, from the challenges of self-reflection to new perspectives and hope beyond.”   No expertise of classical music or the Bible is needed! Student books are $15 each and will be ordered in advance. Therefore\, please sign up by December 15th so books can be ordered and distributed before the first session on January 25th\, 7 p.m.  This series will be held in person in the Friendly Room\, with a modified Zoom option for those unable to attend in person.  Questions? SUMMARY:Service of Light
DESCRIPTION:There is a tradition that many churches have\, and that we are reviving here at Hope\, to offer a contemplative service during Advent that acknowledges our grief and loss in the midst of a joyful season.  This is often held on the longest night of the year\, in recognition of the light of Christ coming into the darkest times of our lives.  It is sometimes called a “Blue Christmas” service\, or “Longest Night” service\, or\, as we are calling it\, a “Service of Light.”  No matter the name\, the service focuses on our universal longing for hope and love amidst loss and grief and uncertainty of all kinds. All are welcome to join us on Tuesday evening\, December 21st at 7pm in the Chapel.  We will hold a short prayer service\, focusing on the light of Christ coming into the dark and uncertain times of our lives. During the service\, all participants will be invited to light a candle in remembrance of a loved one\, or simply as a sign of hope.\n
